WekaIO and Rancher Labs are poised to offer a jointly integrated, end-to-end tested solution to simplify and accelerate enterprise DataOps.

The offering comes as WekaIO’s Weka File System and the Kubernetes Container Storage Interface plug-in have passed interoperability testing with Rancher Labs Kubernetes Management Platform.

Using the WekaFS Kubernetes CSI plug-in, organizations now have increased flexibility in how and where they deploy containers while delivering local storage performance and latency. Throughout the system, the WekaFS and Weka Client solutions deliver the speed-to-market required of a cloud-first solution.

Rancher Labs delivers Kubernetes-as-a-Service across any infrastructure via open source software that enables organizations to deploy and manage Kubernetes at scale on any infrastructure across the data center, cloud, branch offices, and the network edge.

Rancher also provides DataOps teams integrated tools for running containerized workloads. Rancher’s approach also addresses the operational and security challenges of managing multiple Kubernetes clusters across any infrastructure.

“The purpose of any technology alliance program is to develop end-to-end solutions with partners that make life easier for our joint customers,” said Shailesh Manjrekar, WekaIO’s head of AI and strategic alliances. “By partnering with Rancher, we can offer a solution that fulfills the enterprise- and cloud-ready features required of today’s AI/ML container ecosystems. We believe this to be a key step in fulfilling our vision of helping organizations overcome their biggest storage problems with AI- and Cloud-first strategies, while accelerating portability so that they may extract more value from their data, faster.”

Rancher Labs Jim Sarale, vice president of global channels and alliances, stated that the partnership with WekaIO comes as Kubernetes adoption continues to gain momentum.

“While Kubernetes enables a common compute platform across any infrastructure and a consistent set of infrastructure capabilities, it can create overhead and risk.. . With more than 76% of enterprises expected to standardize on Kubernetes within three years, having a certified technology partner like Weka better allows us to help customers overcome the challenges of Kubernetes and deliver value from the data center to the cloud to the edge, with at-scale performance.”

How Weka Supports Container, Cloud-Ready Investments

Weka is built for NVMe flash and cloud-native and is designed to enable organizations to maximize the full value of their high-powered IT investments - compute, networking and storage.

Weka’s features include:

Built For The Cloud: Seamlessly run on-premises, in the cloud and burst between platforms

Shared Storage Architecture: Enjoy shared access from any application to a single data namespace

Optimized For NVME: Achieve lowest possible latency and highest performance

Multi-Protocol Ready: Supports Linux, Windows and native POSIX access to data

Built-In Durability: Uses distributed data protection and instant backup to S3 cloud for rapid recovery

Advanced Security: Keeps your data completely safe with integrated encryption, key management and access control

WekaFS’s support for Kubernetes was further explained in a company blog recently posted by WekaIO’s director of demand generation Rahul Patwardhan.

WekaFS. . . addresses the shareability, performance, and portability challenges by providing stateful, reliable storage, allowing seamless deployment on premises and easy migration to the cloud, while meeting high performance and low latency requirements. Using the WekaFS Kubernetes CSI plug-in, organizations now have increased flexibility in how and where they deploy containers while delivering local storage performance and low latency.

The WekaFS CSI plug-in is deployed using a Helm Chart or as a Daemonset, along with the POSIX agent on Kubernetes worker nodes, and is available in the Rancher application catalog as well. WekaFS supports volume provisioning in both the dynamic (persistent volume claim) and static (persistent volume) forms with its own storage class. It also supports ReadOnlyMany, ReadWriteOnce, and ReadWriteMany access modes.

WekaFS provides high-performing disaggregated storage, scalability, encryption, and data protection to all application-specific Kubernetes PODs and clusters - whether on premises or in the cloud, Patwardhan added.
