Software Vendors Pile on with XQuery Plans

Despite database vendor disharmony over web services workflow (or choreography), they do agree on something: XQuery, the proposed W3C standard for querying XML data and documents. Last week, the W3C began reviewing a test suite for XQuery. Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Informix and Software AG are among those with tools, roadmaps and demos on offer.

Tips & Tricks: A Cross-DB Resource Guide

More and more, enterprise developers (Java, VB/.NET, C++, etc.) are being asked to create more efficient solutions for providing cross-database access to applications and users. Even without knowing a great deal about web services techniques, developers have a growing number of options, thanks to a variety of enhancements to familiar tools and techniques.

Aeroprise Eases Wireless AppDev for Developers

A small Silicon Valley software firm may have "cracked the code" for developers when it comes to wireless app dev and integration. The key, say execs from Aeroprise, is simple: Don't rewrite the enterprise app for the device -- instead, bring the device to the app. See how an Aeroprise approach can pare hundreds of man-hours, and thousands of dollars, from your enterprise wireless project.

Early-Release XQuery Tools Could Be Out by Fall

Database vendors are aligning over XQuery as a standard for querying XML data and documents. IBM and Microsoft just submitted a test suite to W3C for review, and even have help from Oracle and Informix to fine-tune XQuery's support for Java. XML-watchers say early code samples and implementations could be ready by fall, with full XQuery out there in early 2004. Get an update and resources.

Database Vendors Align Over XQuery Work

For all the recent disharmony among database providers over web services workflow (or choreography), there is unity on another key front, XQuery. The W3C this week should begin reviewing a test suite for complying with its standards for querying XML data and documents. Even though the test is based on joint work by IBM and Microsoft, competitors Oracle, Informix, and others are climbing aboard.
