CAST Software is upgrading its Application Intelligence Platform, which assesses the quality of applications delivered by development teams to business users. CAST 6.4 will improve detection of security vulnerabilities and an improved dashboard with views of software quality metrics that could impact business value or security.

With version CAST 6.4 the company focused on “adding and improving features that identify precise areas within the software code that leave web-based applications vulnerable to hackers,” said Olivier Bonsignour, vice president of software development at CAST, in a statement. “In addition to protecting business-critical systems, many of the checks also facilitate compliance with financial, payment card and healthcare industry regulations.”

Under the covers, CAST Software’s platform leverages automated analysis and algorithms to check IT software against some 850 industry Best Practice rules for building software. This approach, Bonsignour said, helps improve accuracy and speed for identifying vulnerabilities in an application’s source code. A smart dashboard presents a variety of IT and business views, which help the organization evaluate their software and where there may be problems, decide how to fix them.

Features of CAST 6.4 include:
Here are a few highlights from the CAST 6.4’s new features:

  • Smart Risk Index— To help organizations understand how a vulnerability in an application’s source code affects the rest of the system.
  • Readily-Customizable Dashboards To give users additional ways to look at snapshots of the applications, examine the problems, and generate PDF reports with a single click.
  • Enhanced .NET Analyzer—To makes it easier to analyze .NET and ASP.NET applications.
  • Fast, Command-Line Access—To allow users to work with the command line interface to trigger an analysis of applications, source code checkers or to integrate with other products, such as source code managers.

CAST said the IT departments at Allianz, Family Dollar and Societe Generale; government agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the German railway system, Deutsche Bahn use CAST to determine the quality of software applications delivered to business users.
