Cloud and API Updates Will Drive ‘Significant’ SOA Growth
SOA component services are poised for "significant growth" as IT departments speed conversion of their traditional APIs to SOA services, and as cloud computing begins to take hold for various on-demand services, according to the report "Worldwide SOA Component Services Market Shares, Strategy, and Forecasts, 2009-2015" from WinterGreen Research Inc.
SOA component services are poised for "significant growth" as IT departments speed conversion of their traditional APIs to SOA services, and as cloud computing begins to take hold for various on-demand services, according to a report from WinterGreen Research Inc.
The study, "Worldwide SOA Component Services Market Shares, Strategy, and Forecasts, 2009-2015" predicts the escalating ramp up in the use of SOA component services will be driven by both enterprise use and cloud-based SaaS (Software as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service) projects.
WinterGreen's report found the SOA component services market will grow "rapidly" as companies implement services across various environments, notably for call centers and ERP applications. Moreover, ISVs will use SOA component services to build software that offers more flexibility to respond to changing marketing conditions -- and at lower costs.
"Software infrastructure companies have "service enabled' their offerings in response to demand for the flexibility needed to operate a global enterprise. This service enabling of offerings represents a promise that the software vendor has the ability to build solutions that can be modified and updated in response to changing market conditions."
Large enterprises, mid-size companies, and very small organizations can benefit from SOA-driven innovation, according to the report. Major SOA vendors are supporting innovation in new ways, and they are providing software that allows enterprises the flexibility to respond to changing market conditions, it said.
As to market penetration, the report found IBM dominates SOA component services market with 41% marketshare. The remainder of the market is divided between 12 other companies, including Microsoft, Oracle and SAP.
