The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), has formed the Cloud Storage Technical Work Group (TWG) to develop storage networking architectures and best practices to enable companies to more easily load, access, integrate and secure cloud storage solutions.

SNIA's new cloud storage working group will be a forum to bring together technology vendors, service providers and even end users to consider standards and patterns which could reduce risks and improve on-ramping of and access to cloud-based assets.

"In order for the cloud storage market to deliver the promised value to the industry, there must be collaboration within the storage industry and among industry service providers to enable unfettered data migration between different cloud storage vendors as well as secure expansion of enterprise data centers," said Wayne M. Adams, Chair of the SNIA, in a statement.

Adams added that SNIA's cloud working group hopes to solicit draft proposals for standard interface definitions for cloud services and cloud storage later this year with adoption of the first interfaces in 2010.

This is not the first time SNIA has helped build consensus for industry-wide enterprise storage. In the past, SNIA helped build industry-wide support for enterprise storage and management API standard initiatives undertaken by ANSI and ISO.
