Keynote Systems is making it easy for IT to test apps directly from the cloud, with new 1-click functionality from its KITE (Keynote Internet Testing Environment) product. KITE is available as a free desktop product to test and analyze the performance of Web sites, as well as Web and Web 2.0 apps from across the Internet cloud.

KITE lets Web teams make the best use of their resources and offers real time performance testing and analysis of complex Web 2.0 applications for immediate performance feedback and it helps identify the root cause of performance issues instantly, reducing expensive production mistakes, according to Keynote execs.

"Now, with 1-click functionality, anyone can determine the performance of a Web site from around the world. We already offer the largest and most accurate real-time test and measurement infrastructure in the world," said Vik Chaudhary, vice president of product management and corporate development at Keynote, in a statement. The company also offers an instant testing tool backed by the power of our global test and measurement network," he added.

Chaudhary said KITE users will also be able to use cloud storage to store the 20 most recently executed performance test scripts for reporting and analysis. Other new KITE features let users build and share scripts and performance results with their colleagues and across teams via email, Facebook and iGoogle as well as across multiple file formats.

Keynote is opening its cloud infrastructure to anyone interested in supporting rapid development and deployment cycles. As part of the effort, the company is offering KITE as a free download here.

Keynote officials say their model compares to other large, more famous, providers of Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) options. "We've done for cloud testing what Amazon did for online shopping," Chaudhary added.
