Sun Microsystems Inc. has announced Sun OpenSSO Enterprise software, an integrated and 'open' end-to-end toolset for secure single sign-on (SSO) for SOA and web services environments. The updated offering is based on Sun's earlier Sun Java System Access Manager and Java System Federation Manager.
Sun's OpenSSO Enterprise was built in collaboration with OpenSSO, an open source, identity management project, and includes access management, federation management and secure web services offering, Sun officials said.
Sun officials said the company designed the offering to allow users to deploy either open source or commercial versions of OpenSSO Enterprise. Sun will also provide customers with support and service from Sun, direct access to Sun engineering and OpenSSO source code.
"Sun's updated identity portfolio, including the new OpenSSO Enterprise, is designed to solve basic and complex SSO and authorization issues as well as streamline the management of end users and resources, so organizations can focus on growth." said Mark Herring, vice president of marketing, Software Infrastructure, Sun Microsystems, in a statement.

Entry-level price for "federation only" version is $20,000 (for less than 25,000 users and includes unlimited partner connections). For 25,000+ users, pricing is based on a per-user pricing model, Sun said.
