Microsoft Corp. says its next major release of BizTalk Server 2009 is on track for the middle of next year, and offers a glimpse at key features to bolster .NET support for SOA, BPM and other enterprise integration tasks.

According to the Microsoft 'roadmap', upgrades for BizTalk Server 2009 can roughly fall into 3 categories: Platform updates; SOA and web services support; and B2B integration.

Updated Platform- BizTalk Server 2009:
  • Supports most current Microsoft platform technologies (Windows Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1).
  • Leverages virtualization in Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, to help reduce costs for hardware, energy, and management. Support for Hyper-V will also help IT create a more dynamic IT infrastructure.

  • SOA and Web Services- BizTalk Server 2009:
  • Adds a UDDI 3.0-compliant registry that supports registry affiliation, extended discovery services, and digital certificates.
  • Adds adapters for Oracle E-Business Suite and SQL Server, and updates all current adapters.
  • Adds a WCF WebSphere MQ channel, providing the transport, data formatter and encoder to integrate directly with WebSphere MQ via Windows Communication Framework.
  • Adds a 'WCF Service for Host Applications' to expose the traditional Transaction Integrator to .NET Framework developers.
  • Updates platform support for the most recent versions of CICS, IMS, CICS HTTP transport, DB2, DB2/400, DB2 Universal Database, and WebSphere MQ.

  • Business to Business/Wireless Integration- BizTalk Server 2009:
  • Supports multiple message attachments, configurable auto message resend, end-to-end filename preservation, improved reporting to address new features, and Drummond re-certification for AS2.
  • Delivers a new lightweight platform for a variety of mobile devices, for easier development and access to real-time information. BizTalk RFID Mobile includes support for enhanced device management, Powershell support for administration of edge infrastructures and the ability to monitor RFID infrastructure using System Center Operations Manager 2007.
  • Complies with key RFID industry standards, including LLRP, TDT, TDS, WS Discovery and adds partial support for EPCIS.
