Intel is shipping an upgrade to its XML Software Suite, designed to provide software partners and end users better XML acceleration, and a new benchmarking tool to check on their performance boosts. MuleSource, provider of the popular Mule Open Source ESB will offer off-the-shelf integration between Mule and the Intel XML Software Suite.

"Our goal is to develop an easy to implement and comprehensive software library that will let all types of providers accelerate XML performance," David Hintz, Director Marketing & Business Development for Intel's XML Software Products told IDN. "We're seeing a lot of interest among customers and partner to improve XML speeds to better support all sorts of SOA and Web 2.0 applications,

Among the Intel XML Software Suite 1.1 upgrades are:

  • Internal Software Design Features

  • --High Speed internals allow very efficient multiple XML operations
--Efficient memory management for better use of system resources
  • Multi-Core Ready and XML Parallelization
--Thread Safe and Industry Leading Scaling As Thread Count Increases
--Auto parallelism for XSLT and Simultaneous XPath processing
  • Will Include SSE4.2 Instructions
--Specific string processing instructions relevant to XML that yield faster --XML Parsing and XML Schema Validation performance

Aside from these upgrades, "future versions continue harvesting of upcoming Intel platform technologies," Hintz said.

Notably, the Intel package also includes the industry's first XML Benchmark Tool to let ISVs and end users actually view the results of their XML acceleration efforts. "It's been tough for software providers and end users to really evaluate their results from different products and architectures to boost their XML performance, Hintz said, "and we've been very pleased at the reaction we've seen so far to putting this tool in the hands of customers and allowing developers to test the performance of a wide range of XML solutions and compare results."

MuleSource Support for Intel's XML Software Suite
Dubbed Mule Xpack for Intel XML Software Suite, the product offers a set of instructions and Mule extensions that significantly improve XML processing performance for SOA deployments, according to the company.

"As the leading open source Enterprise Service Bus, Mule has more than 2,000 production deployments worldwide, with a wide range of use cases leveraging XML in various ways," said Ross Mason, CTO and co-founder of MuleSource, in a statement. "Our collaboration with Intel provides Mule users with tremendous flexibility in the design and deployment of their applications. XML plays a crucial role in moving toward SOA, and the ability to increase processing performance is a huge benefit for many organizations."

According to the company, Mule Xpack provides Mule integration support for the Intel XML Software Suite, which can be used to support three categories of XML operations:

  • XML Parsing - reads XML documents and makes the data available to applications and programming languages for manipulation and processing.
  • XSLT Transformation - facilitates XML transformations in a variety of formats and can be applied to a full range of XML documents.
  • XPath Evaluations - evaluates an XML Path (XPath) expression over an XML document DOM tree or a derived instance of source and returns a node, node set, string, number or Boolean value.

  • The Mule Xpack is immediately available for free download.

"The Intel XML Software Suite delivers software-only XML processing performance that beats even dedicated XML appliances," said Jon Khazam, vice president Intel Software and Solutions Group and general manager Manageability & Middleware Division, in a statement. "The Mule Xpack for Intel XML Software Suite gives MuleSource ESB users an easy way to dramatically increase the efficiency of their SOA applications that use XML."
