Microsoft Office SharePoint Server as 'Integration Hub'
SharePoint Solutions is encouraging enterprise IT to use Microsoft SharePoint as a "hub" for enterprise application integration projects with a new 3-day training course for architects and devs.
SharePoint Solutions says enterprise IT should consider using Microsoft SharePoint as an "hub" to support enterprise application integration projects. The training firm, which is also a SharePoint partner, is offering a series of 3-day training courses to show architects and devs how to do it.
SharePoint Solutions' new course will provide the knowledge and skills necessary to configure Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) as a platform for what the training firm calls, "business application integration." The course, entitled, "Objective Integration: Using MOSS and the Business Data Catalog (BDC) for Enterprise Application Integration' requires students have "a solid foundational knowledge of SharePoint 2007," a SharePoint Solutions executive said.
"Almost every organization has a long list of business systems and applications that have been developed over time using different development technologies," said Paul Vaughn, course author and instructor for SharePoint Solutions, in a statement.
"Typically, end users have to adapt to using these multiple applications and learn multiple interfaces without having a single place to go to interact with all of the applications and data at once," Vaughn added, who is also a senior BI application developer. "This decreases user productivity and can lead to poor business decisions since important data that exists in different applications is not presented together in the user interface."

In SharePoint Solutions' course, students will create, configure and deploy technologies using the Business Data Catalog, Excel Services, the Data View Web Part, Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) to learn the feature set MOSS offers as a business application integration platform, the company said.
After completing Objective Integration, which is divided into 12 modules, students will be able to:
SharePoint Solutions' first class will be held Sept 30-Oct 2, 2008, in Nashville. It will then rotate monthly through locations in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Seattle.
