Cars.com To Upgrade Portal with IBM SOA Offerings

Cars.com, one of the country's leading online portals for automobile buyers will work with IBM over the next few years to use SOA to bring on-demand services to shoppers and advertisers.

One of the country's leading online portals for automobile buyers has selected IBM to provide SOA for its business.

The agreement will see the solutions provider developing an SOA over a number of years in an effort to make on-demand information available to shoppers and advertisers.

A three-way partnership between Cars.com, IBM and Perficient - a leading technology consultancy - the Cars.com Architecture Makeover initiative is hoped to build on the record business growth that the internet-based firm has experienced.

The enterprise has recently been accelerating its investment in new technology, with each of its recent projects relying heavily on its SOA strategy.

"Bringing together IBM hardware, software and services has enabled us to take on these and other large projects to deliver new value to our site visitors and advertisers in a way that would not have otherwise been possible," said Manny Montejano, chief technology officer at Cars.com.

IBM has particular expertise in integrating innovative web technologies with existing business systems via SOA integrations. Another recent high-profile customer of the company was the fraud detection service MIB.

A range of IBM products will be used by Cars.com, including its WebSphere Portal, WebSphere Process Server and Information Server, as well as Tivoli Monitoring and Rational software delivery tools. Through this package, data from dealers and end users can be readily integrated and standardized on the company's own programs.

Commenting on the use of SOA in such environments, Jim Welch, vice president of IBM information platform and solutions, said that companies need to provide the cleanest information for it to be a success.

"Our work with Cars.com is indicative of how organizations using our information integration capabilities within their SOA can more easily deliver accurate and complete information to all their systems and business processes," he concluded.
